In the practice of Reiki and Touch Healing Work, there is a deep correlation between relaxation, the healing therapy and music. Music, especially the types of music used in this work, holds its own healing properties. The use of inspired pieces, like the works of the great masters, contemporary musicians, and Native American artists, not only creates a sense of well-being for the recipient on an auditory level, but can energetically assist the body in entering a state of well-being. And it is in this state that the Body more easily accepts the energy of healing and the state of wellness. Many clinical tests have been conducted to test the effects of different types of music on plants, animals and humans. Without question, music carries with it energy, in its tones, vibrations, and melodies, each having a different and positive effect on the receiver. The use of music heightens the patient's ability to relax and to receive the positive energies associated with the touch of Healing and the Reiki Energy. When beginning a Reiki Session, we try to choose music that will be beneficial to the patient's relaxation and his/her best reception of healing energy. We often use the short interview time with the patient prior to beginning the healing work, to assist in this decision. As the body relaxes and the energy points are aligned, the person becomes more "open" to the Body returning to it's natural state of well-being. We also encourage clients to use this or similar music in the healing work they do for themselves. When clients have three or more sessions, we always leave them with some techniques they can use in helping themselves, either in the healing process, for chronic pain relief, or relaxation. Some Music Suggestions Generally speaking, any music that assists you to go to a spiritual place within, that quiet place where we meet "Self", is good music for healing. And we often have preferences, but the following list indicates pieces that I use most often not only in my practice of Touch Healing and Reiki, but for my personal use as well. The Unforgetting Heart (Real Music, 85 LibertyShip Way, Sausalito, CA 94965 415-331-8273) Michael Hoppé Secret Garden (Songs from A Secret Garden) (Polygram Records, Inc., New York, NY) Rolf Lovland Reiki, Hands of Light (New Earth Records, PO Box 2368, Boulder, CO 80306, www.newearthrec.com) Deuter Compassion (Perfect Pitch, (510) 528-0860) Coyote Oldman Compassion (Platinum Distribution, PO Box 1724, Roswell, GA 30077 www.platinumcd.com) (EarthSea Healing Series) Peter Kater Healing Touch (Malimba Records, 755-i, Kamehameiki Rd., Kula, HI 96790 1-800-334-1179 www.malimba.com) Nadama And then, virtually any music composed and performed by Daniel Kobialka, Acoustic Violinist . Here is a partial list of Daniel's work: When You Wish Upon a Star * Velvet Dreams Rainbows * Celtic Fantasy Going Home Again Celtic Quilt Silk Branches * Excellent for work with the "Inner Child" in Adults and wonderful for children. (Daniel's contact & Recording Company is LiSem Enterprises, Inc., PO Box 746, Daly City, CA 94017-0746. You may use my name in contacting him, if you'd like.) Always remember that music such as listed here, and many others, is always good for background listening as well as deep, deliberate listening. When doing Mediation in Counseling, we always play background music like this. Although you should be able to get most of these works over the Internet (i.e., Amazon.com), Barnes & Noble, Walden Books, Music Stores, etc., you may have to do a "search" or ask for assistance.
